Generally these type of external Firewire or USB devices provide their own hardware monitoring, so software playthrough is not needed. | but now, upon trying to play back recorded input, i get : | "error while opening sound device, please check output device." I cannot add much to what I said before. It's a question of having the sample rate correct, assuming you still have the playback device in Audacity Audio I/O set to the Presonus. Have you turned on the "do not modify sound settings" option on the same Audio I/O tab, changed the sample project rate in bottom left of Audacity's window to 44 100 Hz, and on the Quality tab of Audacity Preferences made the Default Sample Rate to be 44 100 Hz and the Default Sample Format to be 16 bit, then set the same sample rate (Hz) and bitrate values for the Presonus in Apple Setup? What is the sample rate (Hz) of the recorded track you are trying to play back as displayed in the track panel? If it is something other than 44 100 Hz, make the Project Rate 44 100 Hz then select the recorded track (only) and Project > Quick Mix to resample the recording to 44 100 Hz. If you have carried out the actions in the above paragraph, now try to play the track again. Once you get all settings agreeing may be able to raise all the Sample Rate values to 48 000 Hz to give (marginally) better quality. Gale Andrews Outbound message virus free.
